comment After one has made many grid based puzzles how does one make then into a PDF ready for printing
@alanross First, you say you don't want to compose images and give a format like 123456789. Then you have "proved it" and you magicly have images. Okay, use them! Are you just trolling? With this confusing question style nobody can help you!

@alanross What do you mean with computer format? Can you export to a standard format like 81 or Simple Sudoku? I've written a bash script createlpsudoku, which transform Sudoku formats into lpsudoku environments that can be used in a LaTeX document. See: logicpuzzle.square7.de/createlpsudoku and ctan.org/tex-archive/graphics/pgf/contrib/logicpuzzle

I'm using logicpuzzle.sty + qqwing and a bash script to automaticly creating a Sudoke magazine, see: logicpuzzle.square7.de/lpsmag and logicpuzzle.square7.de/texdoku! Up to now it is really unclear want you really want to do! Create puzzles or just composing existing puzzle images on a page?

comment Can I make an “abbreviation expansion” in PDF visible?
@StephanLehmke The main differnece is, that PDF Text Markup Annotations are well defined in the PDF Reference and the highlighting is done in the viewers! They might also look a bit different in different viewers. \pdfmarkupcomment just tells the viewer to use its 'Squiggly' highlight.

@StephanLehmke Maybe a bit late, but \pdftooltip just boxes any material (text, graphic, ...) and just uses the size and position to calculate where to place the tooltop. If want to have light gray underline, you are free to do it on your own, e.g. in \myulpdftt!

Yes, this works with pdflatex and utf8 encoding. There are still encoding problems, when using latin1 instead. Anyway, thank you very much, Mrs.(!!!) Fischer ;-)

comment What kind of data can be gleaned from a PDF created in LaTeX?
For pdfcomment simply use the final option -> so no PDF annotation will be typeset

\LP@G@setcellcontent is defined in logicpuzzle.sty! Do you have an older version of logicpuzzle? For larger numbers one can use the fontsize option of the environment.
