comment Creating separate pdf file containing the bibliography
@cfr Perhaps that is the simplest method indeed.

comment Creating separate pdf file containing the bibliography
@HarishKumar: \includeonly only works with \chapter. I am using article class. (But I wonder if memoir with article option will work with \includeonly.

comment Converting DNG inline in a ConTeXt document?
luatex/pdftex can only include jpeg (including jbig), png, pdf, and a restricted version of eps files. So, you'll have to convert dng to one of these. The conversion to jpeg/png will be lossy; when you convert to pdf, you loose the compression features of dng. So, you'll have to choose your pick.

This is the first time I have seen (left--right) scaled r being used. Interesting!

comment In ConTeXt, what command resets the font size to “normal” after e.g. \tfa?
\tfa etc. are not meant to be used for entire paragraphs. Just like \bf etc., in plain TeX, you should use them inside groups. If you want to explicitly set the font back to the "normal" font, you need to use \setupbodyfont[reset] or \setupbodyfont[reset, 11pt]

comment Choosing TeX engine for novel — just how unstable is LuaTeX?
The engine luatex is not "unstable". I have been using luatex since 2007-2008, and haven't encountered any limitation of the engine in the last 4 or 5 years. However, I mostly use ConTeXt which is guiding lot of the development of luatex, and therefore, the macro package tends to be in sync with luatex. The same is not the case with LaTeX where (AFAIU) some of the "instability" is due to packages not being up to date with the engine.

The wiki page that you linked says that you should use incrementnumber=yes for mkii and incrementnumber=list for mkiv.

comment Is there an “article class clone” for ConTeXt available anywhere?
@JosephWright: I use \endgraf out of habit. I quick grep of the context sources show that \endgraf is used 137 times while \par is used 286 times. Of course, grepping is not a reliable metric.

Nitpicking comment: Use {\tfa ... \endgraf} etc to make sure that line height is correct for multi-line titles.
