comment Is there a script that reads a TeX file and replaces every instance of a \newcommand?
By the way, if you think from this that regex is for loonies, you're probably right.

Or is this a printer alignment problem?

I can't see a problem on my install; the horizontal line at the top of the textblock showframe is exactly 25mm from the top of the page. Could you add a screenshot?

Perfectly legitimate to answer one's own question; you should do just that.

comment memoir: pagestyle for index start on second page of index
No, it's working as designed - the first page of every chapter uses the pagestyle alias named 'chapter', and you can force uniformity by aliasing it to whatever suits your case. It may help to take a look at sections 7.2 and 7.3 of the memoir manual?

comment Generating lists and tables of items from commands in the document
I'd suggest looking at Nicola Talbot's datatool package, which I think will help you with almost all the heavy lifting required to do this.

comment Is it possible to produce a PDF with un-copyable text?
Oh, just seen this: you don't need a typist any more.

@CharlesStewart Well, now, there's food for thought. Thank you.

@red The other one's in an alien format; one more piece of (IMO) unnecessary brain overload.

Wow! Thank you for dedicating some serious thought to this.

comment Disappearing Lines?
FWIW, I occasionally get a similar crash in TeXWorks, but I've never been able to pin it down. I suspect it's related either to large pastes, or to fast scrolling with PgDn or down-arrow.

comment Book style does wrong page shift
BTW, in most decently-typeset books, the outer margins (right margin on right-hand page) are wider than the inner margins. Do you want to do the opposite?

Some PDF viewers also have a switch when in two-page mode, to allow you to place the odd-numbered pages on the left or (more correctly) right of the pair. Usually, the default setting is Wrong

Thanks, Marco, \EveryCitekey is what I was looking for, but it's nice to have the biber tweak in my first-aid kit as well...

comment why this math mode in lettrine
FWIW, I've had a similar problem with EB Garamond, but without lettrine. I suspect the problem may lie in mt-EBGaramond.cfg (the microtype configuration), as renaming this file 'cures' the (my) problem, as does omitting microtype altogether. Using LuaTeX also cures.

comment Garamond kills bold Fonts
(Warning: Pedantic Comment!) Strictly speaking, since Garamond is an early, classical font, it shouldn't be used with bold characters; just roman, italic, and (maybe) small caps. "Bold is modern stuff".
