comment Using \ttfamily with \bfseries (or how to enable bold in fixed-width font)
Even though it's not the best solution nowadays, it is still a nice trick that might come handy someday.

comment How to overlap images in a beamer slide?
All answers here are great, but I'm marking this one as accepted because that's the one I've actually used.

Two solutions: use \uncover or \onslide - tex.stackexchange.com/questions/9094/… - tex.stackexchange.com/questions/21512/…

comment How to overlap images in a beamer slide?
I'm trying this, but adding \pause inside tikzpicture will prevent beamer from adding the slide footer. Any idea about how to fix it?

Those coordinates (10,50) and (100,30) are measured in what unit?

Both answers are good. I'm accepting the other one because it seems to allow more fine-grained control. But, still, if I could I would accept these two answers.

And sorry my ignorance, but how do I use this? Just adding \renewcommand{\ttdefault}{pcr}?

comment How to avoid exceeding TeX capacity when using multi-page tables?
About one year later, I tried lualatex. It took about 1.5GB of RAM to compile a huge 827-page longtable, but it worked! (after messing a bit with the preamble because of incompatibilities with lualatex, see also tex.stackexchange.com/questions/28642/… )

comment How to typeset dimensions of a box?
@Jake, strictly speaking, you are right. But in this context I was only interested in the length dimensions of a box, and not its volume.

comment How to define a new environment with a fancy box (tikz) around sample source-code (listings)?
I thought it was a different enough question. The earlier one asks about using just listings pacakge, while this one asks about integrating listings with tikz. I think that a simple "No, you can't do it with just listings package" is an acceptable answer for the earlier one. Actually, the previous question gave me the idea about asking this question.

comment How to define a new environment with a fancy box (tikz) around sample source-code (listings)?
@Yiannis: Before writing the code from my question, I've tried using \lstnewenvironment, but I failed completely, because I needed to open \begin{tikzpicture} inside the first pair of braces and then close it inside another set of braces. Since that is not possible, another question from this site suggested using the environ package. Anyway, if you have a working solution, please share with us!

comment How to define a new environment with a fancy box (tikz) around sample source-code (listings)?
@Juan: No, I don't want to put an external file because I'm going to use several snippets of source code throughout several slides, so it's a lot better to have them inline with the slide text. Also, sometimes I'll want to highlight some lines from the source code, and thus I need the source inline, mixed with TeX. See this question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/8851/…

comment Can I get a shadowbox with rounded corners? (using `listings` package)
Well... I don't need. I just didn't know any other way. Maybe you could submit an answer (instead of a comment) containing a sample code? ;) It should work with pdflatex and beamer package.

comment How can I highlight some lines from source code?
For highlighting, I've been using \structure{} and \alert{} commands from beamer package. And thank you for your answer! It was very helpful!

comment how do I set the space between paragraphs with beamer?
Oh, well... Just setting \parskip like the sample code in the question works for me.

comment how do I set the space between paragraphs with beamer?
This solution almost works for me. It works if I enclose my text inside \begin{block} environment. However, if I put paragraphs directly inside the \begin{frame}, it doesn't work. And yeah, I've tried using {frame begin} in your code, it still doesn't work.

comment How to vertically align headers/footers in fancyhdr package?
Nice idea... but unfortunately it doesn't work correctly. As I understand, I should use -1 for top-aligned, and -0.5 for center-aligned. Well, the raisebox seems to be off by 1em. (and sorry for the LONG delay before testing this)

comment How to avoid exceeding TeX capacity when using multi-page tables?
Your solution is valid, but I'd love to have a solution that would not involve root access, or that at least would not require any extra step configuring the installed packages. Why? Because I don't want things stop working whenever someone updates the system or goes to another machine.

On my Gentoo system, texlive-luatex is not stable yet, and on my Ubuntu server, there is no lualatex executable. I guess I'll wait some more months/years until giving lualatex another try.

Your solution is also very good, and I've upvoted it too. But in the end I had used Lev Bishop solution. Anyway, thank you for your solution!
