comment New figures not being included in document
It is really hard to figure out what is going on from the given information. Did you check the obvious problems, like spelling of the filename, incl. uppercase/lowercase letters, etc.?

comment itemize doesn't work in IPE
Hm, it seems like a bug, no matter what stylesheet you use, it should not crash the program. You should file a bug report at sourceforge.net/apps/mantisbt/ipe7/main_page.php. Attach the stylesheet that causes the problem.

comment itemize doesn't work in IPE
I cannot reproduce that. I can use itemize just fine, both by choosing the "itemize" type of paragraph text, and by inserting itemize environment into a paragraph text. Can you give more details (platform, version, ...)?

comment Getting IPE LaTeX text labels working
Sure, I understand that you use the well known workaround, but this is not suposed to happen in recent versions of Ipe at all. I suppose that you use Ipe version 7.0.10 or older. Upgrading to a recent version should fix it without having to disable pdf compression across objects in the preamble. If it doesn't, you should submit a bug report.

+1 While it does not actually answer the question, it is definitely a good recommendation for someone who is just starting with R ans Sweave.

There are already several good answers using Sweave, but I would suggest looking at knitr, which is a modern replacement fot Sweave. See yihui.name/knitr

comment How was TeX output visualised on screen, back in the day?
I was still using an Informer terminal like this in the mid 90's. Hooked to a modem, connected to the OSU dialup service. In fact, I wrote my dissertation on it. Does anybody know when dvi2vdu first appered? The dvgt README file written by Geoffrey Tobin in 1993 only says "It was invented long ago by Andrew Trevorrow ..."

comment Problem in starting the PDF from the first page
At least in the classicthesis-config.tex file on CTAN, there is pdfstartpage=3 setting for hyperref.

comment How can I use LaTex to mark my delta y and my delta x?
Geogebra is very flexible, there is actually very little you cannot do with it. For publication quality drawings I atill prefere LaTeX with tikz, or perhaps something like Asymptote or metapost.

comment compiling pdflatex from the terminal in vim
Hm, it does not seem like this is a TeX question after all ,but rather a Vim question. Anyway, can you find out where does Vim save the file? How excatly are you openning the file in Vim at the beginning?

It is also possible to create braces like that directly in Geogebra using a custom tool, see geogebratube.org/material/show/id/33499

comment compiling pdflatex from the terminal in vim
If you have LaTeX-suite installed, you should be able to type \ll in the normal mode in Vim, and the document should compile. However, it pretty much does the same thing as :w followed by :!pdflatex %, so I doubt it will fix your problem.

comment compiling pdflatex from the terminal in vim
Can you post the exact error message you get when running pdflatex? Also, what does Vim status line tell you about the file encoding? Could it be that the file was somehow converted and some invisible characters are messing up the compilation?

comment Possible to have a shell script containing the whole LaTeX document?
See the zeroth's edit: enclosing the THEEND string in single quotes prevents $ expansion and makes all the quoting unncessary.

Good point. You will have to escape that too, and use \\\$ instead. But I am not editting the answer again, because there is probably something else that will have to be escaped, and this will never end :)
