comment Problems with TikZ calculations
I'd love to, but I neither use TikZ nor study math. Maybe @MartinScharrer can help?

@Hans-Peter: Could you try to find a more specific title for this question? Titles with Problem with usually aren't very helpful for someone who wants to find out if this question will be helpful or not.

comment Internal bibliography with biblatex
I'm not sure, but I don't think \bibliographystyle is supported by biblatex.

comment hyperref: Height of page (\paperheight) is invalid (0.0pt)
Since the OP hasn't returned since Aug '11 and the thesis class used doesn't seem to be the one on CTAN, I voted to close as too localized.

comment Adding empty lines for readability
@vaettchen: Yes, I've recently switched from TeXnicCenter (my first) to Texmaker and I can recommend both for beginners (comparison of these two). There are several questions on editors here, the one that Joseph linked to above, and more at {editors}.

comment What to do to switch to biblatex?
As we're talking about changes: Note that in biblatex, \bibliography is deprecated, the use of \addbibresource (with the .bib file extension) instead is recommended (as @lockstep mentioned in his answer). See section 3.5.1 of the biblatex documentation.

comment How to use the parskip package? (space in between paragraphs)
I refurbished your question a bit, hope you don't mind; in particular the title, in order to make your question different from tex.stackexchange.com/q/42/4012; and your code: I took out several lines that weren't related to your current problem. Please have a look at our meta-question about minimal working examples (MWEs) so that you'll be able to write even better question next time :).

Yes, the biggest disadvantage of LaTeX is that not everybody uses it :). University requirements often get in the way of good typography.

@tehingo: I'm a student of philology, no natural science here :). The idea is that you don't tell LaTeX "make a new line here" or the like, but you tell LaTeX about the semantic structure of your document and LaTeX decides for you where to put which space and which break. Another advantage of using this so-called semantic markup: Once you start writing some really long paper, you can change your layout at the end really easily by redefining e.g. \mylinebreak (from my answer), if you decide you don't want the indentation in the end.
