@cmhughes Indeed I have, and that's where my problem comes from: it uses ltxdockit which is not supposed to be used for anything other than TeX documentation. It kinda makes sense, since the implementation is almost comically crude, and offers close to no flexibility. Hence, I want something that looks like that, but isn't ltxdockit.

comment MnSymbol fails with `\mathcal`?
One other thing, though: Is it possible to make caligraphic numbers available as well?

comment \input produces errors, copy&paste not
Tell as what type of errors those are. Also an MWE would be nice, that reproduces those errors.

Whether best practice or not, it works for me, and solves my particular problem. Thanks.

Am I right in the assumption, that it is somewhat of an oversight on the developer's side?

comment MnSymbol fails with `\mathcal`?
Well, I like MnSymbol because it defines a lot of very nice symbols. Is this pretty much the only way to get the symbols? Is there a "best practice" how to do this?

comment Where can I get a list of macros beginning with \var
OK, I've tried many things suggested in here, and searching the document is the best option (with a good viewer, like evince).

comment Where can I get a list of macros beginning with \var
hmm, this is what I've pretty much came up with also. I though there might be a LaTeX command, that would allow me to print such variables, etc. Kinda like it's possible in Matlab, etc...
