comment Why are there no alternatives to TeX, or, why is TeX still used?
I believe what OP is asking is why hasn't been a typesystem like tex implemented in a more recent language like python, ruby, heck even Haskell - which lends itself nicely to embedded DSLs. All of these languages have nice error reporting tools, fast and tested compile times and well-documented libraries.

Does it have the windows installer? (I can't find it at the moment on tug website. Btw - is it just me, or is tug's website the worst simplest website in the world? I mean it just has to provide 2 Download Links: Linux and Windows.)
