comment Xelatex beamer Calibri: how to suppress unwanted ligatures
It doesn't "almost" become a ligature, it just becomes one. Calibri has some ligatures, and there are ways to enable automatic ligatures in Word. LaTeX inserts them by default.

I had the same error message. It shouldn't matter that much. If it doesn't work, try to refresh the FNDB in the settings.

comment How to use the Calibri font
Then you can't use fontspec and can't select the fonts which are only installed on your system. You have to stick to the fonts you install in LaTeX.

comment make transition effect in beamer
You can use slide transitions in beamer, like dissolve: transdissolve. Have a look at "14.3 Slide Transitions" in the beameruserguide for examples and a complete list of transitions. The problem might be finding another pdf viewer than Adobe which can display the transitions.

You should try proTeXt . It's a one click install of portable MiKTeX and TeXStudio bundled.

No but the syntax needs to be correct. As I said, look at the other post, the code there is the minimum that you need to get an output.

Well random symbols will not cut it... have a look at the answer to your last question. The option should be something like "fast compile" or something like that. If you have to choose between LaTeX and PDFLaTeX, choose PDFLaTeX. Yes you can view it, after you compiled it. That means the program takes your text and builds a pdf with it.

It's not enough to save it, you have to compile it. It's the button left to "view pdf" (sorry I don't have an english version).

Well you can use different distributions and IDEs. You could use MiKTeX (that one makes the pdf from your text) and TeXMaker (you write the text in this one). First install MiKTeX and then TeXMaker. It should "just work".

I think the best would be if somebody at your university could show you how it all works. Most students and profs at the math, physics and computer science departments should know LaTeX, so just ask them to show you something. EDIT: You saw a complete sourcecode of a LaTeX document in the answer to your other question. It's really not complicated.

Yes it sounds that way (sorry) but it's really not! You just have to press one button to generate the pdf if you use an IDE (which you should).
