I'm a (British) Mathematician working at a Community College in the beautiful Portland, Oregon.

I use LaTeX for all of my documents- exams, handouts, etc.

I've been a LaTeX enthusiast for a number of years, but have only recently started to learn about the internals. I have a lot to learn- this site has taught me a lot and I'm looking forward to learning more.

I'm also the author of latexindent.pl available on ctan: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/latexindent

@Werner have you seen the column specification? it seems to add \( and then \) around each entry. To the OP: if you load lmodern before fourier it seems to resolve the issue

comment Keep float out of a environment (for example definitions)
you can use a combination of the flafter package and \FloatBarrier from the placeins package. this kind of thing has been asked in a few other questions, but don't worry, it can be hard to find when you're not sure what to search for :)

One specific approach of the general idea mentioned by @Werner is to use xml. From here you can run it through an xslt process to get various different outputs. You can find a complete MWE and demonstration of the idea here, for example: github.com/rbeezer/mathbook
