comment Is there a way to define a shorter command macro instead of \begin{equation} \label{}\end{equation}?
Something like \def\inserteq#1#2{\begin{equation}#2\label{#1}\end{equation}} (or use \newcommand if you are a purist) and then \inserteq{eq1}{x+y=1}?

comment How to pass options to latex compiler using rubber?
Apparently newer versions (I have 1.1) don't support setlist anymore, info rubber says one should just use set, like this: % rubber: set arguments --shell-escape.

comment auto-starting itemize with \item?
@StevenB.Segletes Of course that would not work, which is just fine for me. I can always begin and end the environment explicitly. And besides that, I only very rarely use non-itemized content in slides.

comment auto-starting itemize with \item?
@StevenB.Segletes: at the end of the enclosing group (column, block, frame) -- that's why I thought of using \AfterGroup.
