I'm a condensed matter physicist who, despite a decade's experience with LaTeX, still has an awful lot of TeXnical details to learn.

Unfortunately I also cannot reproduce the problem, with the same version of pdfTeX: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (TeX Live 2012). Is it true that the file overnondomination-eps-converted-to.pdf doesn't exist? Can you post more of your output? (If the answer to the first question is 'yes', presumably there is an error message for the file conversion, and seeing it might help work out what is going on here.)

comment How to avoid including authors in second page for a document with two title pages using authblk package
Yep, that'll do it ... although in your code you don't need to change the \author command, just \@author. The former adds a new author, the latter is the list of authors.

Does the edited version suit better?

comment Asymmetrical tolerancing
An alternative to sfmath is the mathastext package -- which is still a bit of a hack but gives pretty good alignment when I tried it (to be specific I put \usepackage[scaled=0.92]{helvet}\renewcommand*\familydefault{\sfdefault}\usepac‌kage{mathastext})

@Stephen, re breaking things in TeX: indeed...!

comment How may i add a paper stucture?
To clarify: are you asking how to set a background image to get a paper texture effect? If so, the wallpaper (or perhaps background) package would be a better choice than atbegshi; see tex.stackexchange.com/q/837/6984.

comment Placing \section, \subsection in the right margin of an RTL document
If you're willing to get rid of section titles entirely, or at least mark the places you want them to appear, the addendum above might help?

comment Apply formatting to outermost parentheses
An addendum, since I've just learnt a useful trick: you can define \def\Outermost#{\bgroup\afterassignment\outermost\let\@next= }, and then the string containing parentheses behaves like an ordinary argument: \Outermost{First (ab(cd)e(fg(h)i)jk)l(m(n)op)}.

comment How to write a function (piecewise) with bracket outside?
@jamaicanworm Since this is a Q&A site, for follow-up questions like this it's best to open a new question (which you can link to this one to show what you're talking about) rather than ask in comments. A partial answer, though, is that in Mico's answer below you can replace ll by whatever you want - cl sounds like it might suit?

comment Contest: Show Off Your Skillz in TeX & Friends [TeX.sx birthday]
@doncherry: thank you! I had briefly considered this, but wondered whether it was too much of a one-off special effect to be really appropriate as a package. But I'll think again...

comment Hebrew numerals
Thanks Aryeh for the clarification - I wasn't aware that gershayim can be omitted in the cases you mention. To annotate for the benefit of non-Hebrew readers who might be idly browsing this question: these two examples are "Chapter 11", where 11 = יא has no gershayim, and "23 Tishrei 5772" - today! - where 23 = כג has no gershayim but (5)772 = תשע"ב does.

comment variable-sized “such that” pipe
Ah, thank you - I had a vague recollection that this was a relatively recent feature but was mildly surprised to find I didn't need to load any packages to get this to work. That'll be why.

And you don't like the answer "Yes, but you should use polyglossia instead of babel"?

comment Tab not as extra alignment tab
@egreg: yep, that'd explain it. Thanks. Now for bonus points, why don't I need to explicitly restore the catcode?

comment Tab not as extra alignment tab
@Andrey: yes, I saw that I didn't need to but I don't fully understand why: after all, I change the catcode /before/ beginning the group. And changing the catcode /inside/ the group doesn't work! (If this is too complicated to explain in a comment feel free to say so and I can ask it as a new question...)

comment Is it possible to customize only the section and subsection numbers or titles in memoir?
True! I guess the best thing to do in that case is explicitly save the old secnumformat and restore it afterwards. I'll edit to suggest this.

(+1) Snap! And thanks for showing how to use \normalbaselineskip -- I was sure there was a command like that but couldn't remember what it was...
