Where can I find something about $ vs \(? This is notoriously hard to search for, I just found texblog.net/latex-archive/maths/inline-math-mode.

Thanks! I never use minimal in my documents. I just got the impression here on stackexchange that it is the preferred document class for MWEs.

comment Very short overbrace
I now found the abraces packages and use it to just display the middle element of an overbrace. This looks ok-ish.

overbracket looks strange if the annotation is much longer then the bracket. I think it is missing a tip, like the middle element of an overbrace.

Putting the annotation after the equation won't work here, as the position is relevant. The annotations really are part of the term (a logical formula).

comment Force first page to be marked as right page in PDF
I was under the impression that it did, given that (with a double-page view), I've seen documents start sometimes on a right and sometimes on a left page. After your comment I rechecked and indeed it seems just to depend on the viewer (settings), not on the document. This makes the my question pointless, of course .

@Sigur: Thanks, but then the document still starts with a left page, as \includepdf just inserts an empty page before.

comment How to align a set of multiline equations
The nice thing about thing about this solution is that there is no need to mess around with \phantom or \mathllap.
