mcgafter noun

A makeshift instrument or tool (mechanical, electronic or otherwise) whereby one may gaff (poke, hook, hack) something to achieve the desired result. Works better when it gets attached to a mcgoerie*. Very common worldwide especially in parts of Africa where it has been known to be the tool of choice of even high level government officials for all governmental problems.

mcgoerie noun

A well designed tool similar in shape and function to a mcgafter* yet completely different in it's purpose. May also be used on it's own. Uses of this instrument are very rare and appears to only occur in the countries of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa, as well as where former residents of those countries have dispersed abroad.

I found this in the KOMA-Script manual. \setkomafont{captionlabel}{\usekomafont{←􏰀 descriptionlabel}} But it is not clear to me how to actually change the font for the TOC heading.

The following produce a nicer look: \renewcommand{\contentsname}{Table of Contents} \renewcommand*\cfttoctitlefont{\Large\hfill\MakeUppercase} \renewcommand*\cftaftertoctitle{\hfill}

Thanks Dan. The smaller Contents dropped away when I removed \usepackage{tocloft} from the preamble. Although I would rather want to keep the smaller friendlier header and get rid of the ugly big bold heading.

Your solution woks brilliant! I figured I wasn't using scrbook properly. I've had limited success with using \documentclass[a5paper]{article} but ended up running into other issues. Thanks a lot. Many thanks also to @Raphink, I've learned a lot about TeX with your help.

Just a thought I've had so far is to attempt something with the \stepcounter and \refstepcounter commands. Not sure if this is heading in the right direction though.

I've accepted your answer, although Raphink answer was very helpful too. Yet my problem remains therefore I'll start a new question. Thanks.

Oh well, that part works at least, and it doesn't look too bad. My biggest problem is the chapter/verse references thats out of sync, due to the counter manipulation. I'm trying to create a new set of counters to run them parallel to the bverse/bchapter ones.

Thanks Raphink I have managed to get past the second verse overriding the lettrine by doing this and setting the counter to 2 instead of one: \bchapter In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.\ \textbf{\small{2}}\quad And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. \bverse And God said, Let there be light: However my toptitlemarks and bottitlemarks are messed up now due to this, I presume: \addtocounter{section}{1}% \setcounter{subsection}{2}% How do you suggest I fix it?
