PhD student in Jönköping University, department of Mechanical Engineering. My research area is something in between of reliability, structural optimization and response surface modelling. People in my research group use LaTeX daily for all their scientific writings and reports. I wouldn't say we're anywhere near LaTeX gurus, but we're trying to improve our skills continuously.

My main interests are Python programming, algorithms, numerical optimization, and cooking.

I became acquainted with LaTeX a few years ago writing my Master thesis, and never looked back .

comment \elementarycharge command not recognized in siunitx package
@Joseph Sure, I just used what Nigu tried to see whether this replicated the problem.

\SI{0.006}{\elementarycharge\per\AA^3} works for me. Could you post a complete minimal example that produces the issue for you?

comment latexdiff is not working
Make sure you're trying to run latexdiff in the correct directory (folder). Try typing dir on the command line, and see whether the new.tex file appears in the list somewhere.

numprint is very nice! It has a lot other useful stuff that will certainly come in handy. Thanks!

comment Good way to make \textcircled numbers?
This might work when the circle is not surrounded by text, and the font size of the number is not an issue -- but I'd rather use one of the other solutions instead.

comment Good way to make \textcircled numbers?
@Matt: Sure -- my intention here was to point out an aesthetic issue, but I guess I wasn't quite clear on that. The info about what needs to be changed is now mentioned in the post. Thanks.

@Yiannis It's been some time since I posted the question, but I only found time just now to polish the summary. I hope it will be of use to people with the same problem.

comment No simple UTF8 support in latex?
@GlassGhost: My intention was not to imply that your question is easy to solve -- you managed to pull my words out of context. The UTF-8 issue is important for me as well, I've had my fair share of problems with proper Cyrillic support in (La)TeX. However, I think you might want to reconsider in the future the way you formulate your posts (not their content, though). I refuse to be involved in any further discussion on personal grounds.

@Matthew: It seems to be built-in with LaTeX. Works out of the box.

@Stefan I'd be direly concerned that something's wrong on TeX.SE if I don't :-)

In case somebody on the comp.text.tex group gives you a good enough answer before anybody here can, would you mind posting it here as well? We try to have complete answers to the questions here instead of simply linking to them, in case those links become dead one day.

Got two good answers here, for less than 30 minutes (you guys are fast!). I'll probably make a community wiki answer summarizing all options one of these days, maybe some other solutions will come along in the meantime.

comment Good way to make \textcircled numbers?
@TH. True, but that doesn't matter for me -- the numbers do not appear in the free running text, but are rather headers for table columns or used for labelling.

Mais oui! I should have thought of this myself. Thanks! I'll wait a bit for some more suggestions, before I mark this as accepted.

@GlassGhost: I believe I speak for most of us when I say that we do not appreciate the thinly veiled sarcasm and a certain note of entitlement in your comments. The community is happy to help anybody who comes around with a question, even those of the LMGTFY variety. But you need to show a certain degree of respect for people who spend their (free) time answering your questions.

comment Cannot determine size of graphic in * (no BoundingBox)
@Harald: The problem seems to be when one is using graphics vs graphicx. I remember seeing this issue before, but I'm a bit fuzzy on the details.

Hey Sannis, and welcome! Just a few pointers: We usually don't post "answers" posed as "questions", as the platform is not suitable for a forum-like discussion or a wiki, but rather functions as pure Q&A. If you have a specific question, we'd be more than happy to help. In the meantime, take a look at the FAQ: tex.stackexchange.com/faq to get some idea how TeX.SE works. Welcome again, and enjoy your stay!

comment Dirtree pagebreak issue
Оutstanding! I kinda lost hope for this to get answered, but I was pleasantly surprised by your answer. I can't spend much time right now studying the diff between the versions, but in the few quick tests I ran it works exactly the way I want it to. Thanks a lot! You deserve definitely all the rep I can throw your way for this answer. BTW, have you considered conntacting the package author to see whether he'll include some of your code in a future version of dirtree?
