comment Creating anchors in a shape with a \foreach loop
@jfbu: the lines are supposed to be starting and ending equally spaced. So the red one starts one unit from the top left, the blue one two units and the green one three units.

comment Multiple underbraces that span overlapping columns in matrix
Should't the brace start under the first 1?

comment How do I place nodes around a circle in Tikz?
@Sigur: You can do the loop even simpler: \foreach \a [count=\c] in {<label1>,<label2>,...,label17>}{\node at (\c*360/17:4) {\a};}

While it is possible to do calculations using LaTeX, WHY? Watch this until 0:45 ;-)

Even more Dang, you want an even distribution, not total randomness. That gonna be harder...

comment Help for reproducing this page with TikZ
TikZ provides a very helpful current page node. In this answer I gave a very basic example. Other answers deal with solutions with PSTricks. so have a look!

comment Package for game/playing cards (not only poker)
your points (1), (2), (3) and (5) can be done with TikZ. (4) I don't know yet, but definitively yes. For (6) I need a more detailed explanation, best with a picture.

comment tikz, overlay pgf pictures
Did you try putting only the draw commands in the files and inputing them in the same TikZ-picture? Like \begin{tikzpicture} \draw...; \input{} }input{} \input{figures/hahn_long.pgf}?

You're wery welcome to steal, especially if I learn something fancy and new that way! Any idea if there will be an offiical new TikZ release in the near future? Otherwise I'll get that shiny CVS version...

comment Draw a Kohonen SOM feature map?
Also, no you need the Feature map angled that way, so a drawing with a vanishing point? If yes, this is not possible out of the box with TikZ, but quite easy if you need it not angled.

searching for "neural network" gives for instance this, this, this and this, which should help with the left part.

Does \draw [decorate,decoration={brace}] (0,0) -- (30:4); work as you expect it to?
