I found a good solution: use the 'minted' package. This appears to be the best way to auto-color-highlight syntax in code listings. code.google.com/p/minted

comment pdflatex bash script to supress all output except error messages?
Thanks, that worked well. I changed grep ".*:[0-9]*:.*" to egrep ".*:[0-9]*:.*|LaTeX Warning:" so that it looks for warnings as well as errors.

Yeah I mean warnings as well as errors. The KDE latex editor Kile somehow manages to do it, it has a small log window which only displays errors and warnings, but I can't figure out how to do that in a script

comment How to color the font of a single row in a table?
Figured out how to do it: 1. Download tabu.dtx and tabu.ins 2. run latex tabu.ins 3. move tabu.sty to $HOME/texmf/tex/latex/commonfiles 4. run texhash $HOME/texmf

comment Diagram draw with xy package looks wrong
I converted the dvi into pdf using dvipdf. It still looks a little bit wobbly when I view it with evince pdf viewer, but when I print it out it looks fine.

That's annoying, my texlive package doesn't come with tabu.sty. I've even installed texlive-full. I'm using xubuntu 10.04 by the way. I can't figure out how to install tabu.sty manually could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
