comment Odd interaction of secnumdepth and section-based counters
Interesting. The documentation for secnumdepth (and subsection*) don't mention actually not incrementing the counter - they just say the counter is not printed. Anyway, this worked fine. Thanks.

comment Can I have a flexible partial derivative macro?
@egreg: The following two lines $\der{f}{\mathbf{n}}$ $\def{f_1}{x_1}$ do not process correctly. Is it possible to fix the macro so they do? Thanks.

Thanks. (I keep forgetting about the TeX FAQ. I should stop doing that.)

Thanks. My issue with the answers package is the amount of file infrastructure that it needs. It seems really bulky to use, although I imagine that if I just used it I'd get used to it. It simply seems to more than I need, and thus is harder to use than I'd like.

comment What is the best way to learn TeX?
I love this answer. It's exactly the way I feel when I go to Google for an answer to some seemingly simple TeX question and get either nothing or 100 copies of the same web page from some university.
