A lot of TeX distributions (TeX Live for example) don't include the emerald fonts. Are you sure that your distribution does?

@tohecz I thought so too, but it is in TeXLive while nimbus isn't. Just an odd choice on TeXLive's part?

@Silex Possibly, but I think several of them are the same typeface with different implementations? I'm using the blindlipsum package to print out a page with each now.

@PeterGrill I don't think they are synonyms though; As I recall some of the measurements are different between the British and Imperial systems, though I could be getting the names mixed up.

@JosephWright Ah, ok, that makes sense. So now I just have to hope that either PDFLaTeX gets OTF support, or LuaTeX gets Microtype support. Also; hope that they don't rely on system fonts, for the reasons I outlined above.
