I'm a passionate software engineering trying to understand it at a deeper level while working on my PhD at the CWI (Netherlands), where we try to improve the future using DSLs (checkout the Rascal - Meta Programming Language).

Languages I learned and still use: Rasal-MPL, C#, Java, Javascript, Ruby, C, C++, Matlab, LaTeX. (This list should be considered outdated when you're reading this ;-))

As a hobby I try to bridge our software to the physical world using arduino, read ebooks, and enjoy photography.

Ah, I forgot, this is part of the etoolbox package. I used it in combination with \AtEveryCite, since by default it changes the counter locally, but prefixing it with \global will make it global. So the same effect should be \global\defcounter{maxnames}{1}.

you can actually use \defcounter{maxnames}{1} instead of going into the package internal mode.

@AndrewStacey I've no idea about hardlinks or mount points. But (also for @Louis) there is also the posibility of hosting your repo in dropbox: github.com/karalabe/gitbox although I'm not sure how fragile this becomes when also using it as non git repo.

Well, @Andrew's way won't work since git doesn't version track the contents of a symlink, but just the fact that it is a symlink. And yes, you could just write a script you invoke to sync dropbox and your git repo. Just thought to mention that you could automate some stuff in git using the hooks :)
