I'm a discrete mathematician. My main research interests are discrete optimization and scheduling in specific. I've been using LaTeX on and off since 2007, mostly for homework assignments. I have really gotten into it while writing my thesis though. Scheduling problems call for quite a lot of diagrams, so my main focus and interest within LaTeX is TikZ.

Including TikZ image (with external inputs) inside adjustbox adds horisontal spacing, why? I am guessing spurious spaces, add a % at the end of the lines doing the \input and starting the \adjustbox. |

Automatically convert quotations in the form of “abc” to become ``abc" On an unrelated note, a lot of editors will automatically replace " with the correct quotation form when you type the character. I know for a fact kile does this, and I believe AUCTeX does so as well. |

Automatically convert quotations in the form of “abc” to become ``abc" You could just use sed for this (sed is awesome). It does require some escaping on the command line, since you are trying to replace quotes. I can't put it in here, since it contains backticks. So a link will have to do. |

Intersection of lines to draw a convex function @Jake: I copied the starting point from his code :). For it to be the minimum it should indeed be (0,1.7). @stygianguest I like Altermundus's answer better, you should see mine more like an example of how to use the name path and name intersection constructs. |

How can I execute a macro for every node in TikZ? This will probably be problematic, since TikZ works with relative coordinates inside. It then applies a transformation to get correct placement on the page. (At least, as far as I know). |

Writing a line from two sibling nodes in a TikZ tree Just have a look at the manual. There is a chapter on Trees (18. Making Trees Grow). The second page of that chapter shows exactly what you want to do. It uses Alan's suggestion to do so (and Harish's to make it dashed). |

TikZ: Blurring Effect @Jake: Excellent! I'll change the code to reflect this. |

TikZ: Blurring Effect Yeah, using opacity directly also changes the opacity of other elements (such as the lines). I tried any kind of combination with nodes, every node, etc. They all appear to occur either after column 12/.style does, or there is some kind of aggregating issue at play. I'll experiment some with transparency groups. |

TikZ: Blurring Effect @percusse: I tried that, but it doesn't seem to work. I tried all kinds of combinations, but setting all nodes to some opacity and then then override the last one doesn't work. That is, we don't want to change one column, we want to change all except one. |

How I could insert an accented word in a new command? @StephanLehmke: Of course, you are right. So the problem most likely is that the smallcaps font is missing that accented character. |

How I could insert an accented word in a new command? I'm guessing the font you are using doesn't have bold smallcaps ó. Most fonts don't include bold smallcaps at all, let alone accented characters. |
