comment Continuous v. per-chapter/section numbering of figures, tables, and other document elements
@egreg I'm sorry, but I don't really understand your comment. It seems helpful, but I am a little confused. Could you be a bit more verbose? :/

How would I use the amsmath's numberwithin to achieve this numbering style on all defined theoremstyles? Sorry if this is answered above and I am just missing it.

I don't appreciate the edits to this question. I don't see how removing my thanks was necessary or even appropriate.

thank you, this was the solution I have used in the past, I just couldn't seem to find it in my old source code. Thank you so much for saving me the time of searching.

It appears that this requires mathjax to be installed on the server, and thus on my computer that I am using to edit the blog. Right?

comment A better way to reference theorem-like environments?
Thank you! This is PERFECT! Also I appreciate you explaining why you wanted this hack yourself, I was having difficulty expressing myself in my question, but you captured it perfectly. Thanks so much.

@qbi and @Joseph I'm sorry, I must be daft. I don't understand the above discussion. I want to know when to use \emph, and when to use \textit. I feel like there is some discussion above that answers my question, but I can't figure it out. Could you either make it more clear, or should I ask this as a separate question?
