@Jeromy I was thinking of that, but since the question is specifically about TeX and TikZ I didn't think it would be proper. If someone aksed a similar question on Cross Validated I would probably answer that...

I really like the Kruschke style diagrams and in order to make them a bit easier to construct I made an R-script that generates the individual distribution diagrams. I then manually stitch them together in e.g. Inkscape. Examples and code is available here. An fully automated way of creating these diagrams would be very cool though.
