As you can assume, English is not my natural language. Apologies in advance, if it is bad and poor, and please be indulgent.

Though in my case it is not very likely, that it someday happens:

comment How do I use kpfonts with fontspec?
Addition: Generally, Truetype fonts could be used with fontenc, but this would need a map file – and this is missing for almost all fonts.

comment How do I use kpfonts with fontspec?
Short answer: Not at all! Should be clear after Herbert's answer. Either Kp-Fonts or other Type1 fonts with fontenc or TrueType/OpenType fonts with fontspec.

comment How to use Xindy with MiKTeX?
THX for this information. I found this program years ago, and later lost track of it. But I cannot recommend this at all: 1) An obsolete version of Xindy will be installed, so manual updating is necessary anyway. Maybe you would need a more recent version of Perl, as well. 2.) It is too long ago to exactly remember, but I still know, that this program broke something on my own Windows system. My very vague remembrance says the whole system path was overwritten without any warning. (My local copy is from 2010, and I have renamed it to xindy-win_!Do-not-install!.exe after trying for reasons.)

A general answer also valid for MiKTeX users is given in Manual font installation.

No, I shortened only for the answer. I did my test with a copy of your mwe! Note, that I removed beginning and ending of paracol in between, too.

comment TeXnicCenter - Forward search issue
I have one last idea: Download the ZIP version of SumatraPDF (containing only the executable) and_put this in a folder outside of C:\Program Files, let’s say for testing in C:\SumatraPDF or in C:\LaTeX\SumatraPDF. Then change the according path in TXC and try again.

@MarioS.E. No problem at all here with TXC and SumatraPDF, so the same combination like OP has.
