@ajeh: …/.style does overwrite everything earlier defined stuff. …/.append style instead adds/appends (sic!) the new definition(s), only overwriting concurrent options.

Somewhere I have to add this: When this is to be used in a scientific publication, an animation is very, very hard to print on paper. ;-)

You looked in MiKTeX Settings for Admin first. This does only see these two directories. the other is user specific. See also Difference between administrative and user mode of MiKTeX.

Did you by any chance once have used the user update? Because it looks like you need to update the FNDB as user. And you also will have to do this in future for every update the admin does.
