comment How to use WEAVE and TANGLE
With windows you never know if it is a problem with access rights. Does the problem persist if you run the command from a “shell” with admin rights?

Then the lower limit is centered incorrectly.

If the middle sum would stand on its own \smashoperator would do the job. But here the = should not move under the upper limit only the s. How do I move the s easily? What commands are there to achieve this?

comment texify or latexmk?
@Per I think the MiKTeX Installer asks for it. Afterwards it is in the general tab of the Settings tool under the Maintenance entry in the start menu.

I fear that is not enough information to give a viable answer. You have a single column document? Do the multiline math environments span over the whole column horizontally? Why do you hope that placing them in a table saves space?

comment How do I get rid of this line spacing after multicols?
@Mehrdad I am afraid I don't know what you mean by “group by row”. align environments allow math to be typeset in a grid like fashion. And yes if you remove one from the middle, it is troublesome to move the ones below up. But that is taken care of by a good editor with a column edit mode, as well as alinging the source so it can be cut and pasted easily.

@Mehrdad If you take a look at the mathmode pdf you will find plenty of examples with multiple columns. You just use && to separate the different columns and end the line with \\ to begin a new row. If you have equations you can write a&=b& to align the equations by the = sign.
