comment Generate analog clock with numbered face, add seconds, Roman numerals
Wow!!! That definitely adds some "bling". I'd keep it to myself instead of using this to teach children... However, I'm still at a loss trying to add some functionality -- like easily defining hours, minutes and seconds like \clock{1}{15}{30} above.

Both Heiko's and Harish's answers are beautiful; I cannot decide between them... I guess that's because I asked two questions in one.

comment list of figures reference to image, caption on another page
This looks OK, but quite a lot of work for every figure I might need to put a caption on a separate page. Also, where does \thefigure get its counter from? I mean, does it add to the counter of the previous figures?

It's not an orphan caption; it's just a caption on a page referring to an image on another page. It's very common in art books.

yes, they're quite different, but both Khartiya and Heuristica have cyrillic characters. You can check out Khartiya at: sourceforge.net/projects/khartiya

There is a Charter version with cyrillic characters called Khartiya. Or a Utopia version called Heuristica.

comment Gentium font with cyrillic
Maybe Gentium does not have bold cyrillic. If you try another font and it works, it surely is an issue with Gentium. Use another font instead, if you really need bold faces.
