I would like to change line 30 from

{\textbf{#1} \hfill #2}

to

{\textbf{#1} \hfill \num{#2}}

in order to get a nice formatting of the atomic masses, but I can't put text inside \num. How do I fix this?

P.S. The problem occurs in line 321.

The closest you can get here is to define a 'symbol' for input which expands to your text. I'd use \NewDocumentCommand for this as siunitx will otherwise try to expand stuff. Cutting down to the essentials You need to register this with siunitx, and I'd also make sure printing is always in text mode:
