I tried it now in all possible ways but I still do not understand why this option sometimes works and sometimes does not and what I can do about it. I wish to draw a figure with pgfplots but since it requires too much memory, I read that it is possible to externalize the pgfplot. I try to generate a pdf file by using cmd and typing pdflatex -shell-escape myfile.tex. For smaller figure it works, but for bigger ones I get the message:

Package tikz Error: Sorry, the system call 'pdflatex -shell-escape -halt-
on-error -interaction=batchmode -jobname "A-n53-k7_radius1,5_50_figure0"

If I just type "Enter" I get the error:

Package pgfkeys Error: I do not know the key `/tikz/5`and I am going to ignore it. 
Perhaps you misspelled it.

I use WinEdt as well as MikTex.

    Don't use commas in numbers: radius=1,5 should be radius=1.5. The comma in the jobname A-n53-k7_radius1,5_5 looks odd too, but I don't have the time now to find out where it comes from. – Ulrike Fischer Jun 28 '16 at 14:43
