I am using TeXmaker. I saved my .tex-file, but my laptop wasn't responding so I forcefully shut it down. Now after restarting my laptop, I opened my .tex-file, now I am having this problem:

The command window of TeXmaker isn't showing any code nor building anything however when I click on 'View PDF', the internal PDF viewer displays it as usual and as I wrote it. Now I have to complete my document and I can't get my LaTeX code as the command window isn't showing my code. Anyone knows what's wrong and what's the solution?

  • If you open the .tex file with Notepad do you see anything? – Dai Bowen Oct 28 '16 at 21:13

  • And i suppose same thing is going with the notepad. The whole code is there in the tex file and so in the notepad i know its there because when i closed the notepad file it said do u want to save it or not which means the code is in there but why its not visible in the tex file and so in the notepad file?? – Zuwwar Jadoon Oct 28 '16 at 21:24

Before doing anything else, make a copy of the PDF now! I'd also make a copy of the .tex file just in case. Then, ask: Does texmaker save a backup file? (If it doesn't, you should use another editor in the future.) If not, you can probably salvage at least some of your work by converting the PDF to plain text. – jon Oct 28 '16 at 21:32
