I want to .tex the attached. I tried using \begin{pmatrix}.....\end{pmatrix}, but didn't give the required. Any help is much appreciated.

i think this is what you're looking for.

pmatrix won't work because of the vertical rule in the middle.

  • i'm not sure about the size/position of the numerals accompanying the \phi. if you can tell me what they're supposed to look like, i'll fix this. – barbara beeton Apr 23 '17 at 14:10
