I'm using this template (class moderncv, style classic). There is a picture in the folder but \photo[64pt][0.4pt]{picture} (the default line for adding a picture) doesn't add any picture to the output file.

The main code:

  • Your example only produces the letter, not the cv itself. Add \makecvtitle and \clearpage to your example right after \begin{document}to produce a (empty) CV that shows the personal data (address,...) and the photo in the upper right corner.

  • @leandriis I want to add picture to the current format (letter). I need the picture in the current page. Your mentioned way add the picture in a new first page. Nov 13 '17 at 15:58
  • @leandriis . If I remove \clearpage, it adds the picture and title (and other information such as email, etc. to the current page, but I only want the picture. Nov 13 '17 at 16:14

Your question is not very clear so please let me explain a little bit what can be done ...

Your used template of moderncv is a little bit old (2013) so keep an eye of the version number of moderncv installed in your system. The current version is 2.0.0.

In file moderncvheadi.sty you can find the definition of command \makecvhead including the code

\ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@photo}}%
      {}%
      {%
        \if@left%
          \hspace*{\separatorcolumnwidth}\fi%
        \color{color1}%
        \setlength{\fboxrule}{\@photoframewidth}%
        \ifdim\@photoframewidth=0pt%
          \setlength{\fboxsep}{0pt}\fi%
        \framebox{\includegraphics[width=\@photowidth]{\@photo}}}%
        \if@right%
          \hspace*{\separatorcolumnwidth}\fi}%

to add the picture and command \makeletterhead (without picture):

\renewcommand*{\makeletterhead}{%
  % recompute lengths (in case we are switching from letter to resume, or vice versa)
  \recomputeletterlengths%
  % sender contact info
  \hfill%
  \begin{minipage}{.5\textwidth}%
    % optional detailed information
    \if@details%
      \raggedleft%
      \addressfont\textcolor{color2}{%
        {\bfseries\upshape\@firstname~\@lastname}\@firstdetailselementfalse%
        % optional detailed information
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@addressstreet}}{}{\makenewline\addresssymbol\@addressstreet%
          \ifthenelse{\equal{\@addresscity}{}}{}{\makenewline\@addresscity}% if \addresstreet is defined, \addresscity and addresscountry will always be defined but could be empty
          \ifthenelse{\equal{\@addresscountry}{}}{}{\makenewline\@addresscountry}}%
        \collectionloop{phones}{% the key holds the phone type (=symbol command prefix), the item holds the number
          \makenewline\csname\collectionloopkey phonesymbol\endcsname\collectionloopitem}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@email}}{}{\makenewline\emailsymbol\emaillink{\@email}}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@homepage}}{}{\makenewline\homepagesymbol\httplink{\@homepage}}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@extrainfo}}{}{\makenewline\@extrainfo}}\fi%
    \end{minipage}\\[1em]
  % recipient block
  \begin{minipage}[t]{.5\textwidth}

  \end{minipage}

  \@opening\\[1.5em]%
  % ensure no extra spacing after \makelettertitle due to a possible blank line
%  \ignorespacesafterend% not working
  \hspace{0pt}\par\vspace{-\baselineskip}\vspace{-\parskip}}

Because you did not say, if you only want to add the picture to the usual head or (in a comment you mentioned it) just only the picture without other datas in the header I give you the following code to realise both versions:

\renewcommand*{\makeletterhead}{%
  % recompute lengths (in case we are switching from letter to resume, or vice versa)
  \recomputeletterlengths%
  % sender contact info
  \hfill%
  \begin{minipage}{.5\textwidth}%

    % optional detailed information
    \if@details%
      \raggedleft%
      \addressfont\textcolor{color2}{%

        % optional detailed information
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@addressstreet}}{}{\makenewline\addresssymbol\@addressstreet%
          \ifthenelse{\equal{\@addresscity}{}}{}{\makenewline\@addresscity}% if \addresstreet is defined, \addresscity and addresscountry will always be defined but could be empty
          \ifthenelse{\equal{\@addresscountry}{}}{}{\makenewline\@addresscountry}}%
        \collectionloop{phones}{% the key holds the phone type (=symbol command prefix), the item holds the number
          \makenewline\csname\collectionloopkey phonesymbol\endcsname\collectionloopitem}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@email}}{}{\makenewline\emailsymbol\emaillink{\@email}}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@homepage}}{}{\makenewline\homepagesymbol\httplink{\@homepage}}%
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@extrainfo}}{}{\makenewline\@extrainfo}}\fi%
    \end{minipage}%
    \hfill
    \begin{minipage}[b]{.5\linewidth} % adding picture to header
        \ifthenelse{\isundefined{\@photo}}%
      {}%
      {%
        \if@left%
          \hspace*{\separatorcolumnwidth}\fi%
        \color{color1}%
        \setlength{\fboxrule}{\@photoframewidth}%
        \ifdim\@photoframewidth=0pt%
          \setlength{\fboxsep}{0pt}\fi%
        \framebox{\includegraphics[width=\@photowidth]{\@photo}}}%

  \end{minipage}\\[1em]
  % recipient block
  \begin{minipage}[t]{.5\textwidth}

    \addressfont%

  % ensure no extra spacing after \makelettertitle due to a possible blank line
%  \ignorespacesafterend% not working
  \hspace{0pt}\par\vspace{-\baselineskip}\vspace{-\parskip}}

because we have to use @ in this code you have to add command \makeatletter before this code and \makeatother after it.

With the following MWE (I commented out the part of informations in header)

\documentclass[11pt,a4paper,sans]{moderncv}

% moderncv themes

The default .sty files for the letter do not include the includegraphics code, so the image is not added to the letter you could just put:

\includegraphics[width=\@photowidth]{picture}%

In the document where you want the picture to be shown - you'll need to adjust the \@photowidth to be the correct width for your picture.

So in your example, I have added the includegraphic after the \begin{document}:

    Welcome to TeX.SX! Usually an answer should provide a compilable example, if the original post contains one. Could you please extend your code fragment?

  • @TeXnician - I have now edited my post to include a compilable that includes the LaTeX fragment that I mentioned. Thanks for the advice.
