  • You need to compile first with latex, then with bibtex and then twice with latex. My error message was a complaint about an arithmetic operation that failed, but it disappeared once I removed the shrink=20 option. I put allowed allowframebreaks instead, which allows the references to be on several slides. – marmot Dec 1 '17 at 4:34

Instead of trying to shrink the frame, I would just manually choose a smaller font size. For apacite this can be done with \renewcommand{\bibliographytypesize}{\scriptsize}

The problem with the second "References" entry in the toc is due to the fact, that apacite normally start a new chapter or section at the begin of the bibliography. This can be circumvented with the solution from https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/163494/36296

call it testtalk.tex and run xelatex testtalk, then bibtex testtalk and then twice xelatex testtalk? In this excperpt, I have replaced the \nocite commands by \fullcite, which might give you what you want, and also replaced the shrink=20 option by allowframebreaks. And sorry, I do not know how to suppress the References entry caused by \bibliography.
