After a few years I would like to use Latex again.

So I first wanted to update MikTex 2.9 by selecting "MikTex Update" from the start menu. Everything went fine until the end, when an error message popped up.

Unfortunately I cannot find the location of the log file.

No I get the following error message, when either trying to create a pdf using Texmaker or when trying to uninstall MikTex using "uninstall_admin.exe":

It says, that the mentioned dll file is missing on my computer and I should reinstall the program to solve the problem.

When I try to uninstall MikTex through Windows 7 I get the message, that an error has occured and perhaps it has already been installed. It then asks me whether I want to delete MikTex from the list.

Furthermore the links in the start menu (inlcuding the one I used to try to update MikTex) are now missing. They still show up, when I search for them, but when I select I am asked to manually search for the file.

I would be thankful for any help. Preferably I would like for the automatic uninstall.exe to work correctly, so I can reinstall a clean version of MikTex.

I did not want to simply delete the folder, because I thought it might lead to problems, when reinstalling MikTex.

  • Imho your system has reached a state where some "clean automatic uninstall" no longer works. – Ulrike Fischer May 28 '18 at 14:31
