My MiKTeX console reports a PATH issue:

"MiKTeX exececutables [sic] have been installed in:

C:\Users\Renate\AppData\Local\Programs\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex/bin/x64

This directory is not in the search list for executables or is at the wrong position in the list. You can fix this issue by adding the directory to the environment variable PATH. This makes it possible to invoke the MiKTeX executables everywhere."

C:\Users\Renate\AppData\Local\Programs\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64

The issue seems to be that the directory uses forward slashes whereas the path variable uses backward slashes. I cannot change this directory during the installation, and I also cannot change the path variable because it does not allow forward slashes.

Is there any way I can fix this?

You don't need to fix anything. Add the path with backslashes to the PATH variable. This should work fine. – Ulrike Fischer Jul 31 '18 at 20:47
  • The slashes are just an artefact of how MikTeX displays these paths. You can verify that your files indeed reside in C:\Users\Renate\AppData\Local\Programs\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64 and can add that path (with backslashes) to your PATH. – moewe Oct 1 '18 at 12:11
