I'm currently trying to use MikTeX to write a paper, but whenever I compile into a PDF I get this error:

This is BibTeX, Version 0.99d (MiKTeX 2.9.6800 64-bit)
The top-level auxiliary file: EPQ.aux
The style file: model1-num-names.bst
I couldn't open database file sample.bib.bib
---line 12 of file EPQ.aux
: \bibdata{sample.bib
: }
I'm skipping whatever remains of this command
I found no \citation commands---while reading file EPQ.aux
I found no database files---while reading file EPQ.aux
(There were 3 error messages)
Sorry, but "MiKTeX Compiler Driver" did not succeed."

EPQ is the name of the .tex file. From the report it looks as though BibTeX is encountering a problem, but I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.

    Remove the bib extension in you bibliographystyle command. – Ulrike Fischer Sep 12 at 7:06
  • You have probably written \bibliography{sample.bib} in your document, but the argument to \bibliography must not have a file extension. If you write \bibliography{sample} instead things should work. – moewe Sep 12 at 7:06
