I am trying to place a full landscape page size sideways figure which should come before another tiny figure within the same section. I have used following code and I could get the order and style that I liked, however now the alignment of the sideways figure is off as shown in the figure.

    \afterpage{
    \begin{sidewaysfigure} [hbt!]
    \centering
    \rule{\textwidth}{\textheight}
    \includegraphics[width=1\textwidth, height=0.4\textheight]{figuresc/Energy-EU-Sankey}
    \caption{Energy flow of European Union}
    \label{Figure 1.1}
    \end{sidewaysfigure}
    \clearpage
    }

I appreciate your help! off-sideways

  • Since sidewaysfigure is a float, you don't need \afterpage, just use [p]. – John Kormylo Oct 10 '18 at 3:03

It was not the most sophisticated solution, yet it does the work perfectly. Firstly I rotated the png file itself and I erased the line of: "\rule{\textwidth}{\textheight}". Here is the last version of the code and I hope that it might help someone.

    \afterpage{
    \begin{figure}[H]
    \centering
    \includegraphics[width=1\textwidth, height=0.4\textheight]{figuresc/Energy-EU-Sankey}
    \caption{Energy flow of European Union}
    \label{Figure 1.1}
    \end{figure}
    }
