I decided to try the MikTex 2.9 portable. Its my first time using this software. I downloaded and extracted the contents on logical partition E:. I am having a problem to compile the code. I have updated the packages etc. It did not solve the issue. I am running Windows 10. Please see the log below:

Sorry, but "MiKTeX Configuration Utility" did not succeed.

The log file hopefully contains the information to get MiKTeX going again:

  • The WARN miktex-pdftex - running with administrator privileges looks a bit suspicious. There is in general no good reason why you should call pdflatex with admin privileges. How do you call pdfLaTeX? – moewe Feb 2 at 8:35
  • I double click on 'miktex-portable.cmd' to open the MikTex Console. Then I click on the 'TexWorks' button to open the editor – Nadeem Muhammad Feb 2 at 8:50
  • Mhhh, the log shows you get into admin mode doing that. Do you get a Windows UAC prompt at any point? Do you click on anything that says admin? – moewe Feb 2 at 8:52
  • Sorry for the confusion, I might have tried running with admin priviledges to see if it solve the problem which it did not. I have open it again in the normal mode as described above. I have updated the main post with the new log because i could not add it here as it was long. Trying to compile this simple code \documentclass{article} \begin{document} Hello world. \end{document} – Nadeem Muhammad Feb 2 at 8:55

The format file is missing. Try to create it in the MiKTeX console. If it doesn't work add am issue in the MiKTeX issue tracker. – Ulrike Fischer Feb 2 at 9:27
