I'm using MiKTeX on Linux Mint 18.3. Recently, every time I update the MiKTeX package some error occurs. It happened 2 times already, and every time I had to reinstall it again.

Today it happened for the third time, and it's getting annoying, so I'd like to know whether I'm doing something wrong or it's simply a bug.

So, after the recent update, every time I try to compile a document the following error message is displayed:

Sorry, but /home/pericles/bin/pdflatex did not succeed. The log file hopefully contains the information to get MiKTeX going again: /home/pericles/.miktex/texmfs/data/miktex/log/pdflatex.log

Process exited with error(s)

I tried to update the MiKTeX console, but when I do, it says that a MiKTeX configuration file could not be loaded. Here's the info:

Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong?
