I have the following MWE:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{hyperref}
 \usepackage{cleveref}

\begin{document}

\begin{enumerate}
     \item\label{item:45} An item
\end{enumerate}
\section{About \cref{item:45}}
\end{document}

Now, in the PDF I get the correct section title: "About item 1". But the title in the PDF outline is "About item:45". Is there a way to make hyperref generate the outline title after the \cref macro is fully expanded? Alternatively, is there a way to provide an alternative hand coded title to hyperref just for the purposes of the PDF outline?

  • How about \section{About item \ref{item:45}}? Or, \section{About \autoref{item:45}}. – Mico Apr 5 at 18:39
