why does Miktex Console stop working just with one click?

\usepackage{listings} in Texworks couldn't work, so I was trying to install the listings package manually, but the console couldn't work, can anyone tell me what's going on?

  • The maintainer of miktex could probably say something about it, so add an issue at github.com/MiKTeX/miktex/issues. – Ulrike Fischer May 2 at 14:43
  • If you are inside a firewall, the update program may not have access to the internet. Or you computers policy setup may deny you to connect to the update site. If timeout is long, it can seems that the console has stopped working. – Sveinung May 2 at 15:13
  • There is a long delay when you first select packages where it downloads the complete listing of all available package. In some cases (not listings) the name used by MikTeX is not the same. CTAN can tell you when the MikTeX name differs from the package name. – John Kormylo May 2 at 16:28
  • @cecilia I see you got no answer from MiKTeX since you did not give them enough information there are many parts to MiKTeX where you could be trying to "click" when you get an error in TeXworks it is a good idea to ensure that texworks is closed when attempting fixes in the console otherwise the failed compilation may be holding files open If console is not starting the first thing is best to restart the computer so all programs are starting fresh then before using TeXworks try using MiKTeX-console tasks to refresh the filename database etc then check the package "list" for listings details – user170109 May 2 at 23:36
  • Thanks a lot, let me have a try and I'll let you know how it goes. – Cecilia May 4 at 15:46
