I am using IEEE access template downloaded from here. I am adding authors biography in my paper using the following syntax-

\begin{IEEEbiographynophoto}{author_name} (S'18) bla bla bla
\end{IEEEbiographynophoto}

However, I am incurring with following error-

Missing \endcsname inserted.

<to be read again>
                   \unhbox
l.33 ... author_name}{biography.0\c@biography }
                                                  % 33
The control sequence marked <to be read again> should
not appear between \csname and \endcsname.

! Missing \endcsname inserted.
<to be read again>
                   \unhbox
l.33 ... author_name}{biography.0\c@biography }
                                                  % 33
The control sequence marked <to be read again> should
not appear between \csname and \endcsname.

From my understanding, I think something is wrong with the ieeeaccess.cls file but not sure what it is. Please let me know, what can I do to fix the problem.

  • please provide a full MWE – bonanza May 17 at 8:54
  • Did not do anything In the template, just changing IEEEbiography to IEEEbiographynophoto is generating the same error. – user3862410 May 17 at 9:00
  • 1) Its a publishers template, they will change a conforming submission to their house style, If you don't like the house style find a different publisher 2) it uses a set range of packages do not modify any cls or other support packages. 3) It works as per the included example biblio entries , ensure you are not adding commands it does not support. – user170109 May 17 at 14:09
  • Sorry if above comments seem counter productive there is an easy way to test modifications that you propose. that is to produce what we referto as a mwe (minimal working example) you can then submit that to the online checker and see how it will be rejected or not by your proposed change so upload a small one page mini article to the online checker at latexqc.ieee.org – user170109 May 17 at 14:21
  • there is no environment IEEEbiographynophoto. If the publisher asks for a photo you should include it. Note that if you submit your manuscript without photo, the editor might return it back to include biography and photos. It happened to me once.. – Ilbant May 17 at 14:37
