I would like to put a footnote at the end of a theorem title as in this answer: https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/6508. How can I do this when using the beamer document class?

Here is a minimal working example (MWE) based on https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/6508:

\documentclass{beamer}

\usepackage{amsthm}
\newtheorem{theorem}{Theorem}

\usepackage{etoolbox}

\begin{document}

\begingroup
\apptocmd{\thetheorem}{\protect\footnote{A footnote.}}{}{}

\begin{theorem}
Some text.
\end{theorem}

\endgroup

\begin{theorem}
Some text.
\end{theorem}

\end{document}

The MWE produces the output: enter image description here

I would instead like something as follows to appear on the frame:

Theorem 11.   Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus blandit consequat dignissim. Suspendisse rutrum posuere.

1Nam consectetur tortor.
