Is there a set of commands that I can use in latex to reproduce the plot markers used by MatLab? So far I am using $+$, $\bigcirc$, $*$, $\cross$, $\square$, and $\diamond$. The $*$ symbol is particularly disapointing because the MatLab symbol is an 8 pointed asterisk, but $*$ is six pointed. See here in the Marker section for a list of symbols.

1I would recommend you to use the latex symbol list tug.ctan.org/info/symbols/comprehensive/symbols-a4.pdf for finding commands like these. – Jan Aug 8 at 17:53
