I am writing my dissertation in LaTex using report class. I have to write it using double spacing which I used \doublespacing for. However, I am getting an extra space after each paragraph, more than the normal double space.

I tried \vspace*{-\baselineskip}, \setlength{\parskip}{-\baselineskip}, and \setlength{\parskip}{-0.5\baselineskip} but none of them worked.

Any suggestions?

Here is what I have

    Welcome to TeX.SX! \setlength{\parskip}{0pt} should suffice, unless you want the space between paragraphs smaller than the space between lines, in which case you should reconsider... Otherwise, please show us a compilable example of your document. Commented Apr 7, 2020 at 12:20

    An addendum, you could to use parskip package, but it is necessary to have a minimal example.

    @user212010 Then please show us a compilable example that produces that output, with the packages and the document class you use. Commented Apr 7, 2020 at 12:41

    The usual cause for extra space like this between paragraphs is that \flushbottom is set and the page ended when the number of (lines minus 1, as measured by \baselineskip) + \topskip doesn't exactly match the text height. Perhaps there is a large equation that is pushed to the next page, or anew section, or ... You haven't provided enough information for anyone here to give a definitive answer. Well you are loading the parskip package so why do you expect to not see any additional space between paragraphs?

I fixed the problem by adding

\setlength{\parskip}{0pt}

before inputting chapters.

Remove \usepackage{parskip}, which is the source of the issue. Indeed, its primary job is exactly to replace paragraph indentation with additional vertical space between paragraphs.
