I am writing an article for AIP using \documentclass[aip...]{revtex4-1}. I need to arrange a few JPEG files into one figure and the most convenient way is to use longtable* environment. However, I want to have the caption as if it was a figure not a table, so I use captionof package. The problem is that this caption does not span the whole page even though my table does so. Instead caption is located in one of the columns. As far as I can see, captionof must be placed outside of longtable* environment because I get errors otherwise.

\documentclass[%
 aip,
% jmp,
% bmf,
% sd,
% rsi,
 amsmath,amssymb,
%preprint,%
 reprint,%
%author-year,%
%author-numerical,%
% Conference Proceedings
]{revtex4-1}

\usepackage{graphicx}% Include figure files
\usepackage{dcolumn}% Align table columns on decimal point
\usepackage{bm}% bold math
%\usepackage[mathlines]{lineno}% Enable numbering of text and display math
%\linenumbers\relax % Commence numbering lines

\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{mathptmx}
\usepackage{longtable}
\usepackage{capt-of}

\begin{document}

\begin{center}
\begin{longtable*}{l|ccc}
0 & 1 & 100000000 & 1000000000 & Aaaaaaaa & Bbbbbbbb & Cccccccc & 100000000 & 1000000000 & Aaaaaaaa & Bbbbbbbb & Cccccccc \\
\end{longtable*}
\captionof{figure}{Caption does not span whole page.\label{mylabel}}
\end{center}

\end{document}

What can I do to make caption span the whole page?

  • i can't find longtable* in either the manual or any source code. It should have given an error message. Anyway, longtable won't operate in two column mode,. You need to switch to \onecolumn, then use longtable. – John Kormylo Jul 28 '20 at 21:08
