I am using the LaTeX acronym package to keep track of used abbreviations and compile a list of abbreviations, which will be linked and marked with line numbers towards the first occurence.

However on some places I come accross situations, where I would like to use an abbreviation in full but slighty modified. One example is:

Abbreviation is defined as: \acro{PCM}{pulse code modulation}

Data transfers can be realized using the existing pulse code modulated (PCM) telemtry link.

My current procedure is to write the full form in full and mark the short form as used like so:

Data transfers can be realized using the existing pulse code modulated (\acsu{PCM}) telemtry link.

Unfortunately however, this does work with the generated list of abbreviations, where the link and page number is then missing, because at no time the full acronym was used.

Is it possible to either

  1. make sure, that 'PCM' is correctly referenced to in the list of abbreviations?
  2. use an alternative long form for one-time-use?
