How can I update siunitx to v3 using MacTex? Currently I am using v2b.

It took me half an hour to figure out the solution. Therefore, I'd like to share it with everybody.

If you use MacTex, there is an application called TeX Live Utility installed.

  1. Open it. (2. Maybe you need to update the application itself).
  2. Search for "siunitx".
  3. If there is an update available, you will see it below "Aktualisierungen" (Updates in English). If you have already installed the latest version, you will still find the package in "Pakete" (packages in English).
  4. Right click on the package and install update.

I would recommend to avoid updating single packages --- there may be interdependencies. Better updating everything.

  • I've updated MacTex and siunitx hasn't been updated automatically. In such a case the solution above might be helpful.

  • Then please list exactly which latex installation you have on your mac. If it is too old it will not be updated anymore

  • First, this has been the standard procedure for routine upgrade within a version of TeX Live for many years, so I'm not sure which specific problem it solves. Second, I agree with @Rmano. Especially for packages that rely on recent evolutions of LaTeX, updating it without updating the rest is unwise. If for some reason you don't want to update TeX Live on regular basis with TeX Live Utility, just make the yearly update (usually released in May).
