As I learned from How to install a package from a local repository? MiKTeX needs three files to identify a folder as a local repository. These three files seem to include the information about the files including hashes of them. However I am a bit puzzled, because as of now:

https://packages.hs-regensburg.de/ctan/systems/win32/miktex/tm/packages/ contains 5684 files

  • miktex-zzdb1-2.9.tar.lzma contains mpm.ini that describes 5626 files
  • miktex-zzdb2-2.9.tar.lzma contains the folder texmf\tpm\packages\ that hosts 5664 descripting files
  • miktex-zzdb3-2.9.tar.lzma contains a file package-manifests.ini that describes 5664 files

What are these three files for, why do they differ in the number of files described and why are there even more files in the repository?

Alternatively (as this is my goal): How can I check that I really downloaded a complete repository and it is not corrupted?
