The default output for polynomial long division using the polynom package

However, this confuses my American students since they are taught to subtract without changing the signs and adding. In other words, they are used to seeing something like this (please excuse the poor formatting of the division bar and the poor spacing between the lines):

long_division_American_style

Is it possible to modify the default polynom style to subtract without changing the signs and adding?
